2023 Big 12 Tournament Prediction, Odds & Picks: Expect Great Tournament From Best Conference

As confusing as it is, the Big 12 only has 10 teams, but a whopping seven or eight of them are expected to make the NCAA Tournament.

The Big 12 has been the best conference in college basketball all season long, so the conference tournament should provide incredible drama.

2023 Big 12 Tournament Prediction & Picks

Big 12 Tournament Best Bet: Texas | +350 at Caesars

The Big 12 conference was so deep this season that Kansas won the league at 13-5. Texas finished just a game behind the Jayhawks at 12-6 in Big 12 play and ended the season with a statement 75-59 win over KU.

The Longhorns are 11-8 in Quad 1 and 12-0 across the remaining three quadrants, which goes to show exactly how tough the conference was. Have I mentioned that already? Only three of Texas’ conference games were Quad 2, and none below that.

Texas has had a bit of a rocky season at times due to Chris Beard, their former head coach, facing assault charges. He was fired in January even though the charges were ultimately dropped, and Rodney Terry took over as acting head coach.

On the court, Texas is loaded with talent led by senior guard Marcus Carr, who is averaging over 16 points per game.

Three other players score in double figures, but the most impressive part of this team is how balanced it is.

According to KenPom.com, the Longhorns rank in the top 20 in both offensive and defensive efficiency.

That balance means Texas is able to win with its offense and its defense taking control, which is crucial when needing to win three games in three days.

Big 12 Tournament Sleeper Pick: Iowa State | +1100 at FanDuel

FanDuel is a huge outlier here, as this price sits at +700 at Caesars and +650 at DraftKings. Without knowing anything about the team at all this would still be a good bet, but I like it for basketball reasons as well.

The Cyclones finished the regular season 18-12 overall and 9-9 in Big 12 play which seems largely unimpressive — until you see their No. 20 NET rating and nine Quad 1 wins.

This Iowa State quad has proven that they can play with anyone in the country with wins over Baylor, Kansas, Texas and Kansas State. That’s each of the four teams seeded above them in the bracket.

KenPom ranks the Cyclone defense as No. 6 in the country. As a team that likes to slow the game down and limit the total number of possessions, that defense could make the difference and propel them to three straight wins.

I’m not expecting Iowa State to cut down the nets, but there’s undeniable value at +1100 for a team that is fully capable of beating each of the top teams in the bracket.
