2023 Big East Tournament Prediction, Odds & Picks: Can Creighton Make a Run?

The Marquette Golden Eagles had a magical regular season, taking the Big East title by two games with a 17-3 record.

Xavier, Creighton, UConn and Providence also had impressive records with at least 13 conference wins, so this tournament is shaping up to be a great one.

For those of you without BetFred in your state, Creighton is available at +300 on DraftKings. Caesars and FanDuel each have the Bluejays listed at +250, so we’ve already found some value here.

Creighton has had a strange year. A few days before Christmas, the Bluejays were as low as No. 51 in the NET rankings. Since then, they’ve climbed all the way to No. 14.

This improvement throughout the season is due in large part to finally getting healthy. Head coach Greg McDermott had to manage a depleted squad through a tough six-game stretch in November and December and it did not go well.

The Bluejays lost all six. Three to strong opponents in Arizona, Texas and Marquette, but the other three (Nebraska, BYU and Arizona State) are teams Creighton fans have to feel like they should have beaten.

Junior center Ryan Kalkbrenner leads the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game and an impressive 70.4 field goal percentage. He’s far from the only contributor though, as five players average in double-figures.

Creighton ended the year winning 11 of its last 14, and I see them staying hot into the Big East tournament.

Big East Tournament Sleeper Pick: Villanova | +1000 at Caesars

Villanova has had an incredibly bad year by its standards, but the Wildcats appear they may be peaking at the right time.

After losing four of its first six games, including to Temple and Portland, Villanova ended the regular season by winning six of its last eight.

Two of those particularly impressive victories came at Xavier and at home against Creighton.

A 3-10 record in Quad 1 is ugly and perhaps it’s just seeing the Villanova uniform in March, but I think the Wildcats are worth a sprinkle.

Unfortunately, the way the bracket works out Creighton and Villanova would face off in the quarterfinals, so alternatively you could wait to bet and take the winner of that game.
