It doesn’t seem fair that Alabama also gets to be a basketball powerhouse, but here we are. The Crimson Tide won the SEC regular-season title with a 16-2 record and head to Nashville as the favorites to win the SEC Tournament title as well.
The conference is deep this year with five teams ranked in the AP Poll, and two more with winning records in league play.

For all the off-the-court controversy that Alabama has gone through in recent weeks, the Crimson Tide are still one of the most talented teams in the country.
Freshman forward Brandon Miller has been involved in that controversy but has been able to remain an active member of the roster.
He’ll be taking the court in this tournament, and every time he does he’ll be the best basketball player on the floor. Miller averaged nearly 20 points and 8 rebounds per game while shooting over 40% from beyond the arc.
While Alabama lost its last game of the regular season to Texas A&M in College Station, head coach Nate Oats’ squad didn’t lose many this year and none outside of Quad 1.
The Crimson Tide are 9-5 in the top quadrant and 17-0 in all other games.
Even before the loss to the Aggies, Alabama had barely gotten by in its last four wins. That’s a bit of a concern, but once again nobody in the conference has the talent that the Tide roll out.
As the No. 1 seed in the tournament, the bracket shapes up nicely with a bye to the quarterfinals and then a matchup against Mississippi State or Florida, followed by Tennessee or Missouri in the semis.
Caesars is only offering +550 here, so there’s good value with the price at FanDuel. Beyond that, I love picking sleeper teams that have proven to themselves that they can beat the favorite.
While it was a home game, Texas A&M just knocked off Alabama and will have the belief that it can happen again.
When the calendar turned to 2023, the Aggies were ranked No. 99 in the NET but it’s been a steady progression up since then — they currently sit at No. 23.
Two Quad 4 losses to Murray State and Wofford severely hurt their resume, but those losses are more than canceled out by a 10-6 record in the top two quadrants.
The Aggies are red-hot, having won eight of their last nine including wins over Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas and Missouri in that stretch.
Kentucky will be a tough matchup in the semis, but if the Aggies get through it they know they have the ability to beat Alabama or anyone else that comes from the other side of the bracket.
