The Safe Pick: Brazil | +400 at Bet365
Historically, Brazil has been the safest possible bet to win a World Cup, with five World Cup victories to their credit.
As the odds-on favorite to win again this year, Brazil is looking for a deep run at the very least, with one of the most star-studded and talented casts (led by Neymar) in all of football.
Assuming Brazil doesn’t have a 2014-style collapse, they’re rightly favored to go all the way and increase their lead in total World Cup victories.
The Longshot: Belgium | +1400 at Bet365
While Belgium certainly isn’t bringing a top-five team to the World Cup (although they are bringing a very talented roster), they have an advantage that many more highly favored teams do not: they’re a part of what is likely the easiest quadrant of the bracket.
With Spain, Brazil and Germany in one quadrant, England and France in another, and Argentina and the Netherlands in the third, Belgium’s strongest competition in the opening rounds of the World Cup is Portugal — a team that they beat last summer in the European Championship.
With the highly-contentious matchups that are expected in the other quadrants of the bracket, Belgium has a strong chance to get through their games with more ease than many of their competitors, and they could enter the later rounds of the World Cup with much fresher legs than their competition.
The Value Pick: Portugal | +1200 at Bet365
Much like Belgium, Portugal has some potential easy matchups in the opening round of the World Cup, with Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea all rounding out their bracket.
Fortunately for Portugal, they’re a more talented team & cohesive team than Belgium, with superior top talent.
With Portugal bringing Diogo Jota, Rafael Leão, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, and Cristiano Ronaldo to the tournament, and the likelihood that this is Ronaldo’s last chance at winning the World Cup, there could be a magical run in the making for a Portugal squad that is already being counted out.
2022 FIFA World Cup Prediction: England | +800 at Bet365
With youth on their side and arguably the best roster and coaching they’ve had in 50 years, my pick to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup is England.
While they don’t have the easiest opening round or side to their bracket, they’re the best team of the bunch in their quadrant, in my opinion, and will show that en route to a World Cup championship.
