Tonight features a pretty decent WNBA slate, with 4 games going on after a mini hiatus for the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. In this article, we will be detailing the matchup between the Minnesota Lynx and the Atlanta Dream.
Despite this game being played in Atlanta, there is possibly some value backing the road dogs in this spot. Let’s get into it.
If we are just looking at wins and losses, this game admittedly doesn’t offer a ton of excitement with the Dream sitting at 12-16 and the Lynx at 10-19. Also, if we’re looking to handicap this game based on record the value would clearly be with the Dream.
With that being said, there are many other factors to look at when judging two teams rather than solely looking at wins and losses. One stat that I put a lot of value on is net rating. You can find these stats directly on the WNBA website for easy public consumption.

If we are looking net rating, the Lynx rank ahead of the Dream. According to this statistic, the Dream are the 4th worst team in the WNBA, while the Lynx are 6th, squarely in the middle of the WNBA.
Despite being at home, the Dream do not find much of an advantage playing in the comforts of their home stadium. They are one of only four teams that have a negative net rating when playing at home. So, I do not put any value in this game being in Atlanta.
Another reason to like the Lynx in this spot is when you factor in how these two teams are playing more recently. Instead of looking at the season as a whole, if you filter the data from June 1st on, the Lynx have a positive net rating while the Dream fall even lower to the 3rd worst team in the entire WNBA.
So, when diving into this matchup in more detail, you start to see a lot of factors favoring the Lynx in this spot. For that reason I think getting them at + money is great value.
